Evolution of a Salmonella Biosecurity Program Over a 10-Year Period

چکیده

Control of nosocomial salmonellosis and implementation of effective biosecurity programs to limit the risk of this disease continue to be a challenge in equine hospitals. Monitoring programs for detection of fecal shedding of Salmonella serovars is an effective tool to identify both nosocomial infection and colonization and to determine when changes in biosecurity programs may be necessary. Risk factors for Salmonella seroconversion of fattening pigs in farrow-to-finish herds.

We did a prospective observational 9-month long study to quantify risk factors of managerial and hygiene practices, and pig-health status for Salmonella seroconversion of fattening pigs reared in subclinically infected French farrow-to-finish farms. During the fattening phase, 2,649 pigs belonging to the same batch of contemporary pigs, from 89 conventional farrow-to-finish farms were individua...

Biosecurity aspects of cattle production in Western Uganda, and associations with seroprevalence of brucellosis, salmonellosis and bovine viral diarrhoea

BACKGROUND Many low-income countries have a human population with a high number of cattle owners depending on their livestock for food and income. Infectious diseases threaten the health and production of cattle, affecting both the farmers and their families as well as other actors in often informal value chains. Many infectious diseases can be prevented by good biosecurity. The objectives of t...

Modelling a national programme for the control of foodborne pathogens in livestock: the case of Salmonella Dublin in the Danish cattle industry.

A 'virtual hierarchy' model is described for studying the spread of pathogens between herds of livestock. This novel approach to simulating disease has animals, herds, and geographic regions in a national livestock industry arranged as a hierarchy of objects in computer memory. Superimposed on all objects is an infection-recovery cycle, a control programme, and surveillance based on test result...
